Is offered by Jardim Infantil Dom Dinis as an extra-curricular program and as an after-school program for elementary school age children. Goretti Silveira, a Portuguese native speaker and a foreign language teacher, originally founded Dom Dinis in 1983. Vision
Help families who are trying to raise bilingual children to acquire, maintain and continue to develop Portuguese language skills at an early age by offering high quality, developmentally appropriate programs for children 2.5-5 years old and an after-school language class for children 5-9 years old.
Program Offerings at Dom Dinis
Preschool Portuguese language instruction is organized around themes and incorporates the principles of developmentally appropriate practice as defined by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. These themes were selected around topics proven to be relevant and of interest to children. Portuguese is learned across the curriculum and takes place simultaneously with the activity at hand.
After-School Class Provides a continuum of Portuguese language language learning for children in Kindergarten through elementary school. Classes meet weekly from 1.5 to 3 hours. Portuguese is introduced through a multi-sensory approach using language arts, creative arts, songs, rhymes and games.
